It took me about an hour to
realize the people helping me carry my bags had no affiliation with the airport
whatsoever; just kindly locals looking to take advantage of unsuspecting
foreigners by assisting them and asking for a ridiculous amount of money in
return for their services. How much would the tip be for rolling one of my
suitcases to my terminal? If you guessed I would give him R100 (Rand is the
African currency and the exchange rate is roughly $1=R9) you were correct. I
just assumed that’s what everyone gave. Nope.
